Midtown Station
About This Spot
Nestled along 2nd Avenue in Cedar Rapids, Midtown Station gives the feeling of a familiar neighborhood gathering spot where you’re recognized by the friendly faces behind the counter and the hum of easy conversation flows steadily through the room. Whether you step in for a casual morning coffee or linger through the afternoon into early evening, the atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, with a comfortable rhythm that invites you to slow down and savor the moment.
This is a place where meals are thoughtfully crafted to fit into your day without fuss. Breakfast carries a creative edge—think perfectly poached eggs resting atop creamy avocado and crispy bacon, or French toast kissed with a subtle spice—paired with fresh, seasonal fruit that brightens each plate. By midday and beyond, the menu shifts effortlessly, reflective of a classic American bar and eatery but with touches that surprise; from robust burgers to lighter seafood offerings, the food here resonates with warmth and authenticity rather than showmanship.
The service echoes the spirit of the setting—attentive yet unhurried, with a genuine pleasantness that makes each visit feel personal. Midday patrons often find themselves seated on the outdoor patio, basking in the simple joy of a quiet afternoon with friends or a good book, while inside, a modest bustle carries on without pressure.
What truly stands out at Midtown Station is its easygoing, honest take on the local dining experience. It’s the kind of place where you feel invited to take your time, whether settling in for a weekend brunch or unwinding over a craft beer in the early evening. The balance of simplicity, familiar flavors, and human connection crafts a quietly satisfying space that many find themselves returning to again and again.

I visited to try the Brussels Sprouts (delicious) and spicy tenderloin (very tasty). I did think the tenderloin and fries were a bit over fried. A refillable soda from the bar over a can would have been nice. The staff were extremely friendly.

What a delightful spot. The waitresses were very nice and friendly. The smoked sausage sandwich I had was awesome! Kielbasa. Had a Witchslap to wash it down. Great beer on tap. Inside & outside seating available. Friend had the Philly.

The food here never disappoints! Service was a bit slow last time we stopped by, but the servers were very polite about it, and the food was worth the wait. We were able to sit outside, which was great for a nice afternoon. Definitely recommended!

Delicious creative breakfast options, fantastic service and nice atmosphere. Great coffee too! No vegan options.

The atmosphere is casual and simple, but the food is delicious, regarding their breakfast options. I ordered The Cali Eggs Benedict. Perfect poached eggs on an English muffin with avocado, bacon strips, holendaise sauce, and roasted grape tomatoes. I ordered my side to be a bowl of seasonal fresh fruit, which consisted of actual fresh fruit (strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, and green apples) RATHER than melon mixture that never finished ripening. Very good! They're located directly behind the main fire station downtown. Free street parking.

We stopped here on a Friday afternoon. So not busy at all. Service was fast and friendly. Lots of drink options and a variety of food options. I went for the Philly cheese steak with jalapeños it was amazing not to spicy. Will definitely be going back.
